Marvin Gaye: A Voice That's Timeless

It's not just his three-octave vocal range or his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's not just the fact that he ranks as #6 on Rolling Stone's list of The Greatest Singers of All Time or because he was crowned "The Prince of Soul." It's not just his Grammy awards or the tragedy of his death.

It's how Marvin Gaye's raw sensual soul broke away from the controlled recording world of the 70s and concentrated on the personal politics of the era. But even better, it's how almost 40 years later, Marvin Gaye's seductive voice still gets me off. Just go listen to Let's Get It On and you'll see what I mean.

Fresh Tomatoes

There's almost nothing better than a big bite of these delicious things on a summer day. As edible as apples only with better textures, tomatoes are more than you'd think. For example, I'll bet you didn't know that the tomato's specific name, lycopersicum means "wolf-peach." And scientifically speaking, the tomato is considered a fruit because it is a flowering plant. However when dealing with U.S. tarrifs it is defined as a vegetable. The reasoning is because tomatoes are prepared more like other vegetables and the word "vegetable" is actually only a culinary term.
But maybe none of those random facts about tomatoes really concern you. Maybe you just like the taste of freshly chopped salsa with crisp tortilla chips or some thick slices on a hot burger. Oh well, as the French used to say: tomato, tomahto.
